Digital Smile Design
With Digital Smile Design (DSD), each individual patient’s mouth can be clearly visualized through the use of high-tech imaging, along with the latest in three-dimensional modelling. With a plan in place, your DSD smile designer can then create a model of your mouth and show you images of what you can expect at the end of the treatment.
DSD is a multipurpose dental treatment protocol that offers a number of advantages over other treatment options. The procedure begins with a more advanced way to diagnose issues with the structural components within the mouth and jaw, as well as an intraoral and extraoral evaluation to assess the aesthetics of the mouth. DSD also allows for improved communication between the team members providing the care, which means you’ll be more aware of what to expect throughout the process. You’ll have access to educational materials and visual representations of what your smile will look like after the DSD treatment is complete.
iTero® Element™ Intraoral Scanner
The iTero Element Scanner is a state-of-the-art digital impression system that eliminates the need for messy putty in your mouth. With our iTero Element Scanner, we can digitally capture a detailed 3D model of your teeth and gums. Not only is this process far more comfortable than the old putty based impressions, but it’’’s faster and can offer a superior clinical endpoint.
- No goop or gag to worry about
- Fast, accurate impression
- Ideal for crowns, bridges, implants, and Invisalign® clear aligners and retainers
- See a simulation of your potential Invisalign treatment outcome
During the impression process, you can breathe or swallow as you normally would. You can even pause during the process if you need to sneeze or just want to ask a question. The scanner gives us a 3D model of your mouth that can be used for your dental services including the Invisalign Outcome Simulator to show you what your new smile might look like.
CBCT 3D Imaging
Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is 3D Imaging that allows a practitioner to evaluate osseous pathology, evaluate tooth / bone relationships, see locations of impacted teeth, and observe tooth and bone landmarks and anatomy. It’s widely used for evaluation of dental implants.
During dental/orthopedic imaging, the CBCT scanner rotates around the patient’s head, taking nearly 600 distinct pictures. Scanning software collects the data and reconstructs it, producing a three-dimensional anatomical image with data that can then be manipulated and visualized with specialized software.
Intraoral Camera
Because we want you to be well informed about all aspects of your dental health, we’ve invested in an intraoral video camera. About the size of a pen, at allows you to see broken fillings, gum problems, or small cracks, even in the back teeth!
With the Intraoral Camera, we can zoom in on one tooth to magnify it several times its size, or we can give you a tour of the inside of your mouth. You will see precisely what we see, so you will better understand your treatment problems and options.
The Intraoral Camera can reveal a problem while it is relatively simple to treat. The full-color images produced by this unique instrument give you the knowledge you need to make informed decisions regarding your dental health.
Digital X-Rays
Our digital x-ray system is a modern method of taking x-rays.
Digital x-rays produce up to 90% less radiation compared to film-based X-ray procedures used in the past.
The conventional way to take x-rays took 5 to 10 minutes to develop, as well as time to re-position the camera. Digital x-rays take only seconds to appear on the computer screen. This makes it very easy to magnify the picture and to show you, the patient, exactly what we are seeing. We are also able to store the images on the computer, thus minimizing the need to retake x-rays.
VELscope Oral Cancer Screening
The VELscope is a device that offers a painless and non-invasive way to screen for abnormal tissue in the mouth. Without the need for stains or rinses, the examination takes only one or two minutes. The VELscope® System Handpiece emits a safe blue light into the oral cavity, which excites the tissue, causing it to fluoresce. The clinician is then able to immediately view the different fluorescence responses to help differentiate between normal and abnormal tissue. If abnormal tissue is observed, a biopsy is ordered to determine the exact nature of the tissue.
